FAQs

  • Players invited to join Valley Venom Lacrosse are expected to commit to playing with the club for the entirety of the club year.  Players are expected to make every effort they can to prioritize making all scheduled practices and tournaments.  The investment being made by the coaches, players and families is all for not if everyone isn’t moving forward together.  We understand conflicts arise and life events happen outside our control.  When unable to make a practice or event, communicating those conflicts well in advance as able is essential. Players are also expected to have open rapport with their coaches and seek out feedback for areas where they are excelling as well as areas that need improvement and embrace areas of weakness.

  • Parents are expected to cheer loudly for their players as well as all players of Valley Venom Lacrosse.  Parent’s must refrain from addressing other teams players, coaches, or parents in any negative manner. Game officials should be treated with respect and all are reminded they are human and mistakes undoubtedly will be made.  Coaches are in communication with referees throughout and see the same things and are well versed in dealing with those situations.  We have seen first hand how inappropriate sideline conduct can affect how games are officiated, and we will not tolerate parent conduct deemed detrimental to the program.  We ask for parents to remain positive of all players and to refrain from coaching from the sidelines to ensure we minimize confusion through one consistent voice, that of the coaches.  Our coaches are professional coaches with collegiate playing experience, decades of coaching at the Varsity High School Level as well as at the elite travel club level.  We can’t do what we do without great supportive parents, and it truly makes an impact on the overall experience for all players and families.

  • There should be no expectation of equal playing time.  Playing time is earned through attendance at all activities, improvements being made, time being spent outside, and most importantly attitude and coachability.  The players working the hardest will receive the bulk of the playing time.  However, we recognize players cannot develop without getting much needed game experience.  While we do not guarantee a minimum amount of playing time we try to get all players at least 30%.  That is not every game, and will most likely vary from game to game, tournament to tournament based on game situations.  At the end of a season we like to be able to look back and have an average around that mark.  Quickest way to ensure time on the field is with a solid stick, which is why putting the time in outside of practice is so vital.

  • Tryouts are structured to allow us to get a whole player profile. We move through various drills to see a players athletic ability, IQ, stick skills, and above all their ability to be coached. We don’t look at what a player is today, we judge players by what we think they can be in the future.

  • Practices are determined by the coach for each team individually. For summer this is generally 2x a week during the week and in the Fall on Sundays as to not interfere with Fall sports.

  • Uniforms are included in the club fee and include a penny, shorts, and shooter. Extra shooters or shorts are available in the Team Store.

  • All players are expected to provide their own lacrosse equipment which meets current NOCSAE and Federation requirements. Players should all have a stick, helmet, gloves, arm pads/guards, and shoulder pads with meet NOCSAE ND200 requirements. While Valley Venom Lacrosse does not provide equipment, we’d be more than happy to point you to some useful resources for affordable equipment.

  • No. Team helmets are an optional item. However, we have partnered with Cascade to offer a significantly discounted price when purchased through the club.
